The Controller is responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial operations of the company and its branch locations.
Job Description
- Support management team and branch managers with financial planning and annual budget setting process; oversee centralized financial operations
- Oversee General Accounting, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Tax, and Financial Reporting, as well as assist with Payroll Function
- Prepare monthly financial statements including income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement
- Ensure finance transactions and resulting financial statements are accurate and reliable and internal controls are effective
- Assess current processes and implement new processes (as needed) to ensure the accuracy and valid business purpose of transactions
- Manage monthly accrual process, ensuring all accruals are complete, accurately computed, documented, and recorded
- Perform periodic reviews of Balance Sheet reconciliations to gain assurance balance sheet accounts are accurate and reconciling items are resolved in a timely manner
- Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports
- Review and approve significant adjustments to ensure accuracy and valid business purpose; ensure significant adjustments are communicated to senior leadership if necessary
- Review journal entries and various account reconciliations to facilitate the month end closing process, including bank reconciliations and other balance sheet account reconciliations
- Keep up-to-date with state specific financial regulations, specifically informed of Banking Department financial policies across various states
- Coordinates all aspects of external audit
Desired Skills and Qualifications
- Previous Mortgage Industry experience preferred
- CPA preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or relevant discipline required
- Minimum of 5 years Accounting / Controller experience required
- Fundamental understanding of accounting concepts including the interrelation of the income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement
- High competency in the development, implementation and monitoring of internal controls
- Strong business acumen; excellent program management skills, highly detail-oriented,
- Experienced at managing expanding company financial infrastructure; strong understanding of scalability
