Wouldn’t it be nice to escape the gritty city and move to a tropical oasis? Fortunately, we have a version of paradise right here in the U.S. We call it Florida.

Some people retire to Florida, others relocate for their careers and many love the beachcombing lifestyle. In fact, approximately 900 people move to Florida every day!

If you’re contemplating a Floridian future, let’s discuss the good and not-so-good things about a potential move to the Sunshine State.

Pros of Moving to Florida

There are lots of great places to live, so why choose Florida? Here are a few of our favorite reasons:

  • The climate is unbeatable.
Florida is generally sunny and warm. Some areas experience winter cold snaps, and Florida is also known for afternoon rain, but it’s usually pretty pleasant.
  • You’re never far from the beach.
If you love the beach, Florida is a no-brainer. Even if you select an inland location, day trips to the sandy shores are usually hassle-free.
  • Florida doesn’t have a state income tax.
Florida’s lack of state income tax entices newcomers. It’s one of the reasons that this state maintains its affordability.

Cons of Moving to Florida

Florida isn’t for everyone. We had to think hard, but we came up with these three downsides to Florida living:

  • Some people can’t take the heat.
Even though we think it’s pleasant, the weather in Florida is downright hot for some. If you’re not a heat person, reconsider your Florida move.
  • Hurricanes might put a damper on your summer.
Not every city in Florida is severely affected by hurricanes every year, but it’s still worth noting. Florida residents manage by having an evacuation plan to follow when these storms hit.
  • If you’re not near the beach, the landscape is uneventful.
Don’t expect to find rolling hills in the middle of Florida! There are plenty of great places to live inland, but they will be pretty flat, dry and sun-drenched.
